June 5, 1998
LUBBOCK, Texas -Texas Tech University women's golfer Jamie Vannoy has been named to the 1998 National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Academic Team.
Vannoy, who transferred to Texas Tech from Arizona, was one of 13 Big 12 Conference women's golfers named to the team. Vannoy, who just completed her sophomore season, is an advertising major. She posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average and was named to the 1997 Fall Commissioner's Semester Honor Roll.
"I'm real excited for Jamie," said Texas Tech Director of Golf Jeff Mitchell. "It's a wonderful testament to student-athletes when they can not only be successful athletically, they can be very successful in the classroom. She really works hard. It's hard to say enough about the effort she put into it."
Vannoy and junior Brooke Lowrance were the only two Red Raiders to play in all 10 tournaments this season. The Sandy, Ore., product tied for first with a 3-over-par total of 147 in helping Texas Tech claim the Utah-Dixie Classic title in April.
Vannoy was third on the squad with a 77.2 stroke average and had four top-20 finishes during the year. She tied for 17th at the Big 12 Championships and had Tech's second-best finish at the NCAA West Regional with a tie for 50th.
