LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's golfer Megan Dowdy is enjoying a successful summer on the links already as she made the cut at the U.S. Amateur Women's Public Links late Tuesday afternoon at the Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wis. The Leander, Texas, product will now move to match play beginning Wednesday.

Having qualified for the event two weeks ago at a United States Golf Association Publinks qualifier, Dowdy opened stroke play at the event Monday by carding a three-over par 76. She came back strong Tuesday by carding a one-over par 74 to tie her for 11th overall at four-over par 150.

Dowdy was not the only Tech golfer participating in the event. Jackie Smith, who just completed her freshman campaign, also qualified for the event. She did not manage to make the cut, however, as she finished at 20-over par 166.

The lowest 64 scores from Monday and Tuesday's stroke play advanced to match play in a field that featured 156 participants from across the country.

The first round of match play will take place Wednesday with additional rounds on Thursday. Complete results can be found at www.uswapl.org.
