LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Texas Tech Red Raiders Megan Dowdy and Ulrika Van Niekerk were named to the 2008-2009 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar team.

Dowdy competed in 11 tournaments during the year and was the first Red Raider to win a tournament since 2004, when she won the Challenge at Wolfdance. The senior had a 75.9 stroke average and eight top 20 places during the season. She finished with a 3.516 GPA and a degree in communication studies

Van Niekerk played in 10 tournaments and had the best stroke average of the team with a 75.8. She had four top 10 finishes and nine top 20 finishes on the season. The senior is an environmental engineering major with a 3.731 GPA.

The All-American Scholar Team criteria are some of the most difficult in college athletics to accomplish. A student-athlete must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and must have played in at least 50% of the school's regularly scheduled rounds during the year.
