LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Texas Tech golfer Kim Kaufman moved up to No. 9 on the Symetra Tour money list this week after recording her first professional victory last weekend at the Island Resort Championship held at the Sweetgrass Golf Club in Harris, Mich.
In just her third professional event, Kaufman bested Mitsuki Katahira in a one-hole playoff after firing a 4-under-par 68 final round that left her at 3-under for the tournament. The final-round performance was the lowest card of the day and tied for the lowest score of the 54-hole tournament.
The victory pushed Kaufman's earnings to $20,986 this season as she also tied for 10th at the Decatur-Forsyth Classic, her first professional event, and 16th at the Four Winds Invitational. The two-time All-American is the top-earning rookie currently on the tour.
The top 10 players at the conclusion of the Symetra Tour's season in late September will earn LPGA cards for next year. Kaufman is one of just three players currently ranked in the top 20 that have played in fewer than four events so far this season.
Kaufman is scheduled to appear in all seven tour events remaining this season, beginning July 12-14 with the Credit Union Challenge held in Albany, N.Y.
