LUBBOCK, Texas - Kim Kaufman recorded her second top five performance of the summer Friday when the Texas Tech senior finished third at the Royale Cup Canadian Amateur Championship held in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
After heading into the final round of the 72-hole tournament tied for fourth, Kaufman fired her third-straight under-par card thanks to a 2-under 70 that left her 6-under overall. The Clark, S.D. native also shot a 2-under score during Thursday's third round.
She trailed tournament champion Ariya Jutanugarn by eight strokes after the Thailand native shot 1-over during the final round to top her sister, Moriya Jutanugarn, by five strokes. Kaufman also finished tied for third in June after reaching the match play semifinals at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
Gabby Dominguez, meanwhile, continued her solid play from the day before with a 1-under card that kept her in the top 15 individuals. The Chilton, Texas wrapped the tournament in sole possession of 13th overall at 2-over.
Kaufman and Dominguez were two of the top three U.S. players in the field as Angel Yin was the only other American to finish in the top 15 thanks to a fourth-place showing.
Tech's lone remaining player competing this week, Hannah Arnold, concluded her run at the Texas State Amateur Championship by falling by one hole to Katy Kile in the championship match of the consolation bracket. The tournament was held at the Stonebridge Ridge Country Club in McKinney.
Beverly Mendoza will be the next Lady Raider in action as she opens the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship on Aug. 6 in Cleveland, Ohio.
