Mendoza Wraps U.S. Women's Amateur First Round On Cut Line

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's golfer Beverly Mendoza wrapped the first day of the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship tied for 96th after a 6-over 78 opening round Monday at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Philippines native will have work to do Tuesday during the second and final round of stroke play where the top 64 players will advance to a match play format. There are currently 14 players tied at 3-over for 62nd overall.
Mendoza totaled four bogeys during the front nine alone mixed in with a birdie on the par-5 eighth. She also recorded bogeys from holes 13-15 before wrapping the round with three-straight pars.
Lydia Ko leads the 155-player field after a 6-under 66 that was two strokes better than Alison Lee and Hyo-Joo Kim. Only 15 players finished the opening day under par.
Mendoza will open the second round at 8:20 a.m. CT Tuesday morning. She will be paired with Elisabeth Barnabe and Bronte Law when the group tees off from the 10th hole.
