LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders will complete their fall season as they travel to Ft. Myers, Fla., for the second edition of the GSU/Pelican Preserve Invitational. Play will begin on Monday, October 16th, with the first two rounds, and the final round will take place the following day. Tech will compete in a field of 15 teams, including last year's Pelican Preserve champion South Florida.

Tech is coming off of a three-week resting period prior to which the team competed at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate. Tech shot an identical score to the home event, Jeannine McHaney Intercollegiate, with a 54-hole score of 911. The Red Raiders will look to finish in the top half for the first time this season and place a member in the top 20.

ON THE COURSE
The Pelican Preserve Golf Club is located in Ft. Myers, Fla., along Florida's Gulf Coast. Chip Powell designed the par 72 course which opened in 2002.

The course hosted the GSU/Pelican Preserve last fall in which USF took the title firing a 907. Campbell University took second with a 910, while host Georgia State finished in third two shots back. Jaclyn Perlman of Campbell captured the individual title with a 222. Campbell holds the record for lowest team round with a 293, with Perlman holding the individual record after firing a 2-under 70 last year.

THE COMPETITION
The GSU/Pelican Preserve will feature a total of 15 collegiate squads, with Texas Tech being the only member of the Big 12 participating. Tech will be in company of schools that are ranked in similar fashion to themselves. Only four teams are listed in the top 50 on the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index. Louisville will enter as the top team with a rating of 40th. No. 47 Maryland, No. 48 Charleston and No. 50 Iowa are the remaining three listed in the 50.

Other teams listed in the top 100 are Florida International, Georgia State, Miama (Fla.), Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi, South Florida and Texas Tech. Dayton Beach C.C., Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville and Minnesota round out the field.

The Red Raiders have only faced two of the teams in previous fall tournaments. Tech finished higher than Florida International at the Jeannine McHaney where the Red and Black finished ninth to FIU's 11th. Ole Miss also competed at the McHaney Intercollegiate and finished ahead of both Tech and FIU as they took fifth place.

THE LAST TEE
Tech last competed at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate and fired a 54-hole score of 911 for the second-straight tournament. The 47-over-par score placed the Red Raiders 10th in the field of 16.

Megan Dowdy led the Tech team for the second-consecutive tournament as she fired rounds of 77-71-75--223 (+7). Dowdy finished in a tie for 23rd, one shot back of Tech's first top 20 individual placing. Gloriana Soto carded rounds of 77-76-76--229, 13-over-par, to tie for 36th. Melissa Fahey finished one shot back of Soto with rounds of 78-79-73--230 to tie for 40th. Brynn Anderson was close behind with a 15-over 231 (78-74-79) and tied for 43rd. Rosalyn Kim tied for 50th after turning in scores of 78-78-78--234.

Amanda Martinez competed as an individual for Tech, marking her second event of her career. She finished 74th with rounds of 78-76-78--242, 26-over-par.
