No. 15 Texas Tech Returns to the Links in Oklahoma
Oct. 14, 2012 LUBBOCK, Texas - Coming off an eighth place finish two weeks ago, the 15th-ranked Texas Tech women's golf team returns to the links Monday morning to open the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic being held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla. The Lady Raiders will have to navigate another challenging field when the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins as Tech is one of eight participating teams ranked in the top 40 of the latest Golfweek Magazine rankings. In addition, Tech will also face four other Big 12 Conference schools, including host Oklahoma, which held off the Lady Raiders by a stroke a year ago to claim the tournament title on its home course. The 14th-ranked Sooners are joined by No. 56 Kansas, No. 61 TCU, and No. 68 Kansas State as well. Head coach JoJo Robertson will be going with her third different lineup this season as she will send out seniors Kim Kaufman and Gabby Dominguez along with juniors Beverly Mendoza and Hannah Arnold and freshman Kimmy Hill. Kaufman, who was named the September Big 12 Player of the Month, finished second at the tournament a year ago as she fired a 3-under 213 to fall three strokes back of individual champion Anne Tanguay of Oklahoma. The Clark, S.D. native has finished in the top 15 of both tournaments this year with a second-place performance at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic before tying for 14th at the Windy City Collegiate. Dominguez wrapped up last year's tournament a few strokes behind Kaufman as the Chilton, Texas native used a 3-under 69 final round to move into a tie for third overall. Mendoza also boasted Tech's third-lowest card as she finished tied for 26th overall. Tech was the top-ranked team in the nation (Golfstat) heading into the Windy City Collegiate Championships a few weeks ago before an eighth-place finish dropped the Lady Raiders to No. 15 in the Golfweek poll and No. 45 in the Golfstat computer rankings. The Lady Raiders will be paired with Coastal Carolina and Ohio State during the first 18 holes on Monday. Tech will begin the round from the 10th tee at 9 a.m. TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
