LUBBOCK, Texas - After picking up her first career victory Sunday at the Landfall Tradition, Kim Kaufman's week has only got better.
The Texas Tech senior, who was named the Golfweek Magazine Golfer of the Week on Monday, moved to No. 2 nationally Wednesday in the publication's updated individual rankings. It is the highest individual ranking ever for a Lady Raider golfer.
"We couldn't be happier for Kim," Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. "She has had a great fall for us and has been a true leader with her play. We'll look for her to play a big part in the rest of our season."
Kaufman fired a 5-under 67 to open the rain-shortened Landfall Tradition that was cut to just 18 holes due to thunderstorms around the Wilmington, N.C. area. It was her third-top five finish in just four tournaments so far this year.
The Clark, S.D. native closed the fall averaging a team-best 71.5 strokes per round as she has been among the top 15 individuals in all four events. She started off the year by finishing second at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and then followed that performance with a fifth-place showing weeks later at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic.
Kaufman's play helped the Lady Raiders finish tied for third at the Landfall Tradition and in the process jump six spots in the team poll to No. 18 nationally. Tech is one of three Big 12 teams in the top 25, joining No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 12 Oklahoma State.
The Lady Raiders open the 2013 spring slate on Feb. 10-12 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic held annually in San Juan.
