LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior women's golfer Alex Gibson has been named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for the month of October, marking her first honor from the Big 12 Conference.

Gibson, a junior from Lubbock, notched the the first win of her career at the Heather Farr/CU Memorial in Erie, Colo. She shot a 5-under-par score of 213 and was one of only five players to shoot an under-par round. Gibson shot par or under all three rounds while leading Texas Tech to the team title against competition that included Colorado, Nebraska, SMU and Minnesota.

"Alex (Gibson) has had a good fall season," said Texas Tech head coach JoJo Robertson. "Her win in Colorado has given her some confidence. She is really close to playing well every week and I think we will see that from her in the spring."

Texas Tech's team title at the Heather Farr/CU Memorial was the first by the women's golf program since capturing the 2007 Jeannine McHaney Memorial at the Rawls Course in Lubbock.

Also honored by the Big 12 Conference was Madison Pressel of Texas and John Hurley of Texas A&M. The Lady Raiders return to the links in February when they travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the Lady PR Classic (Feb. 7-9).
