Tech Men's and Women's Golf Ranks in Top 50
Dec. 6, 2001 LUBBOCK, Texas - Golfweek.com released its team and individual rankings with Texas Tech men and women's golf teams placing in the top 50 and two Red Raiders in the top 100 individual standings. The men's team, ranked 35th in the nation, finished its best season under second year coach Greg Sands claiming two team tournaments at the SFA Crown Classic and the Mid Pines Intercollegiate Classic. Tech men's golf team is one of five Big 12 schools ranked in the top 50, placing in the top 10 in all five tournaments of the fall season. The Red Raiders opened their fall season shooting a team record round of 844 at the Mid Pines Intercollegiate Classic, setting a new record for Tech's All-Time 54-hole score. Tech women's golf stands steady at 45th in the nation, and also rounds out the top five Big 12 schools on Golfweek.com top 50 team rankings. The women's team faired well in the fall season posting three top 10 finishes, placing sixth at the Price's "Give em' Five" Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. and the Comcast/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Senior David Bolen stands 37th in Golfweek.com's top 50 individuals, averaging 73.9 strokes per round in the fall. The Austin, Texas, native had quite an impressive fall season winning his second career title at the Cardinal Classic in Beaumont, Texas, placing second at the SFA Crown Classic, finishing third at the season-opener Mid Pines Intercollegiate, and setting new career records of best low round 65 and best 36 hole score of 135.
Junior Stephanie Dukes is 81st in the nation, also winning her second career tournament at the Comcast/Dick McGuire Invitational and placing fourth at the Price's "Give em' Five" Intercollegiate. The 5-8 standout from North Richland Hills, Texas, played her career best round at the McGuire and currently holds several All-Time Texas Tech individual records.
