CANYON, Texas - Texas Tech's Kristy Frantz scored a hat trick and added two assists in a 6-2 Red Raider exhibition win over West Texas A&M Saturday in Canyon, Texas. WTAMU, playing without three key starters due to injuries, scored the game's opening goal as Courtney Massie beat Tech goalkeeper Kellie McCallister from 16 feet out following a feed from Jodi Koetter. Tech, though, controlled the remainder of the contest, outshooting the Lady Buffs 31-4. Frantz, a junior from Alexandria, Va., scored the first of her three goals at the 31:25 mark and her second at 39:29 to give the Red Raiders a 2-1 halftime advantage. Senior midfielder Amy Rutstein picked up Tech's third goal of the game by connecting on a one-touch pass from Frantz. Tech increased its lead to 4-1 as Frantz scored off an 18-foot blast into the net at 50:21. Tech's Lizzy Biles gave the Red Raiders a 5-1 lead with a back post goal off Frantz's crossing shot. Texas Tech hosts Angelo State for an exhibition contest on Friday, Aug. 28 beginning at 4 p.m. at R.P. Fuller Stadium. The Red Raiders open the regular season with a home contest against #20 SMU on Tuesday, Sept. 1 beginning at 4 p.m.
