Red Raiders prepare for first Big 12 road trip
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders, who are currently ranked seventh in the Central Region this week, will travel to Kansas and Missouri this weekend for their first Big 12 road trip.
On Friday, Tech faces Kansas at 4 p.m. in Lawrence. The Jayhawks are 2-6 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play this season. Sophomore defender Jackie Dowell, sophomore midfielder Denise Cooke, and junior midfielder Amy Dyksterhuis are three of the 14 letterwinner who are returning this season. Kansas is coached by Lori Wlaker, who is in her second year. Last season's squad finished with a record of 6-12.
Sunday, Tech will be in Columbus to play Missouri at 1 p.m. In their first year of competition, the Tigers are 2-5 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 play. Their lone conference win was an upset over the University of Texas. Missouri is coached by Bryan Blitz who has a career record of 52-45 in his seven years as a head coach.
"Road games are always tough, that's why I stress the importance of winning at home. If we can win both of these games it will be a big confidence boost fo our team, and it will help solidify our position in the conference," head coach Diane Nichols said.
Freshman forward Kristy Frantz also made news this week as she maintained her spot among the nation's top point getters. Frantz is fourth in total points scored. Freshman goalkeeper Lizzie Pruitt broke into the Central Region rankings as she was ranked ninth in Individual goalkeepr stats. The Red Raiders are 6-2 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play this season.
