Texas Tech Soccer Team Reports for Practice
Squad Returns to Tech under New Leadership
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech women's soccer team will begin preparing for their 1997 season tomorrow as they report for preseason workouts.
The 17 returnees and 11 newcomers will take care of team business on Tuesday evening before undertaking their first workout on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The remainder of the week the team will practice at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. All workouts will be held at the soccer practice field located at the intersection of Flint and Main on the Texas Tech campus.
"The girls are coming in fit. They have worked hard over the summer. I don't know what to expect from the recruits. I hope they come in fit so we can start right away with the tactical aspect of the game instead of trying to get them in shape," first year head coach Felix Oskam said.
Last season, the Red Raiders racked up their third winning season in as many years with a mark of 13-8. They qualified for the inaugural Big 12 Soccer Championships after going 5-4 and finishing fourth in conference play. The Red Raiders ended the season ranked eighth in the Central Region.
Tech will open their 1997 season on Friday, Aug. 29 as they host the University of New Mexico at 4 p.m. Prior to that, Tech will warm up with a scrimmage against West Texas A&M on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
