LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team got their first loss of the season after falling to No. 21 Purdue, 4-0, in West Lafayette, Ind. The match was part of the Big 12-Big Ten Challenge.

The Red Raiders are now 2-1 on the season, while Purdue improves to 2-1-1.

The Boilermakers got off to a hot start in the match as junior defender Kira Bilecky tallied the opening goal at the 1:56 mark. Purdue would go on to build a 3-0 advantage in the period by adding goals at the 13:25 and 24:17 marks.

In the second half, senior midfielder Rebecca Robison put the Purdue Boilermakers up 4-0 as she scored at the 56:08 mark.

Freshmen midfielders Zhaleh Rezaie and Emmie Bennett led the Red Raiders with three shots a piece, but Tech was outshot in the match 10-26.

"Purdue deserved to win this evening," said head coach Neil McGuire. "They completely dominated us in the first half physically and tactically. The second half we performed slightly better, but still did not create enough to give Purdue any legitimate problems."

The Red Raiders are back in action on Sept. 2 when they travel to Bloomington, Ind., to face Indiana in the second match of the Big 12-Big Ten Challenge.

Tech returns to Lubbock on Fri., Sept. 8, to host Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. On Sun., Sept. 10, Tech faces Colorado College at 1 p.m. at R.P. Fuller Stadium. This next home weekend will kick-off the Red Raider revolution. The Texas Tech soccer team has adopted a new motto this season, "You'll Never Walk Alone." The first 1,000 fans will receive scarves that represent this new team motto. If you wear your official Texas Tech seal shirt that was given away at the first home match, you will receive free admission. Groups of 10 or more receive tickets into the match for $1 per ticket.
