Sept. 5, 1999
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women’s soccer team was defeated by Arkansas 2-0 at R.P. Fuller Stadium. The Red Raiders now fall to 1-3 on the year.
The Lady Razorbacks scored their first goal at the 19:00 mark by Debbie McGoldrick with an assist by Holly Collins. Arkansas’ other goal was in the second half at 58:24 by Michal-Lynn O’Kelley from McGoldrick. In the first half, Arkansas picked up a yellow card at 29:00 by McGoldrick and a minute later Chelsie Ricci received a red card and then another minute later, Arkansas head coach Alan Kirkup was dismissed from the game.
The Red Raiders dominated the game as they outshot Arkansas 18-6 and recorded six corner kicks to the Lady Razorbacks four.
“We played a lot better today than on Friday,” said assistant coach Barb Chura. “We had one player who had five opportunities to score and didn’t put it away. We had so much more opportunity to score and we couldn’t do it. Overall, I am not disappointed. We dominated the ball but just could not finish.”
Tech had 10 shots-on-goal led by junior Jennifer Hamm and sophomore Marie Valdez with three each. Goalkeeper Brittany Peese played all 90 minutes and had two saves on Arkansas’ four shots-on-goal.
Next up for the Red Raiders is the Reebok Miner Desert Scramble in El Paso, Texas. Tech will take on UTEP Friday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. CDT and New Mexico Sunday, Sept. 12 at 11:30 a.m. CDT.
