LUBBOCK, Texas -  Texas Tech senior defender Hayley Haagsma connected on her third goal of the season Friday night to push the Red Raiders past Cal State Fullerton 1-0 in front of more than 900 fans at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

The team captain sent a header home in the 62nd minute off an assist from sophomore Caity Heap for her first career game-winner and another highlight in an already impressive senior campaign. With the victory, Tech moves to 4-1-0 on the season while securing its fourth shutout.

"Tonight we really played our brand of soccer," head coach Tom Stone said. "This was a classic Friday night for Red Raider soccer."

The Red Raiders have now outscored opponents 8-3 in the second half this season, and 50-24 in the second half since 2011. Texas Tech has also won back-to-back matches against Fullerton after winning the 2012 Cal State Fullerton Under Armour Invitational with a 2-1 victory over the Titans last season in Fullerton, Calif.

Texas Tech and Fullerton entered the halftime break in a scoreless tie after the Red Raiders just missed on a handful of opportunities in Fullerton territory. Texas Tech nearly connected on an early scoring opportunity when sophomore Briana Rohmer sent a near-perfect cross to fellow sophomore Janine Beckie inside the box. The cross just missed Beckie who went for a header on the attempt which soared across Titan net and just outside Beckie's reach.

Tech's defense allowed just three shots on the night while senior goalkeeper Victoria Esson made one save and posted her third shutout of the season. Esson, the all-time leader in career shutouts for the Red Raiders, now has 17.

Texas Tech held a 14-3 advantage on shots for the night and a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Haagsma led the attack with four shots, three of which were on goal, all while making her 48th consecutive start - a streak which dates back to the 2011 season-opener.

She now leads the team with her three goals on the season. Four Red Raiders have scored two goals in the first five matches of the year.

The Red Raiders return to action Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against Cal State Northridge. The game closes a season-long five match homestand and marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
