Tech Soccer Gets First Victory Sept. 9, 2000 PORTLAND, Ore. - The Texas Tech soccer team posted its first victory of the season Friday evening with a 5-1 victory over homestanding Portland State. The Red Raiders (1-4) scored three goals in a six-minute span during the middle of the match to take control against the Vikings (0-4). Lindsay Wile scored on an assist from Ellen McNamara with just over a minute left in the first half, giving Tech a 2-0 edge at intermission. Portland native Ali Jepson scored Tech's third goal on an assist from senior Carrie Graham. McNamara picked up her second assist of the match on the fourth Red Raider goal, scored by Lindsay Thompson. Graham put the Raiders ahead 1-0 with her second goal of the season in the ninth minute. Marie Valdez posted Tech's final tally in the 73rd minute for the 5-1 victory. Portland State got its only goal in the 60th minute from Nicole Fagg. Brittney Peese picked up the win in goal for the Red Raiders, making one save during the match. Tech forced PSU keepers to make 10 saves during the match.
Tech finishes its season-opening six-game road trip with a match against Portland Sunday at 3:15 CT. The Red Raiders open the home slate on September 14 against West Texas A&M.
