Red Raider Soccer Rolls Past UTSA
Sept. 9, 2007
Lubbock, Texas - After being shutout in the first half, the Texas Tech soccer team scored four goals to rout Texas-San Antonio, 4-1, Sunday at R.P. Fuller Stadium. The Red Raiders improve to 2-2 on the season.
Four minutes later, UTSA's Ezinne Opko tied the game by knocking in a Chelsea Zimmerman free kick that deflected off the top of the post.
Jennifer Kammerer put the game away for the Red Raiders in the 75th minute with her goal from 25 feet out.
Following the match, Tech head coach Tom Stone said he was particularly proud of how the team battled after UTSA tied the game early in the second half.
"We know now that if we go down one or even get tied, the game is not over," Stone said. "I was proud of how the girls battled and never gave up. We just need to build off this against two good teams next weekend."
The Red Raiders travel next to the Dallas Metroplex for a 7 p.m. Friday match with TCU and a 1 p.m. Sunday match-up with the Mustangs of SMU. Tech returns to R.P. Fuller Stadium Sept. 23, against Jackson State.
