Red Raider Soccer Falls on the Road to UTEP|
Sept. 16, 2005
EL PASO, Texas - Senior Kimmie Davis turned in her second multiple goal game of the season, but it was not enough to propel the Texas Tech soccer team to a victory on Friday as it fell to UTEP by a score of 4-2 at University Field in El Paso, Texas.
The setback drops Tech's record this season to 1-6, while UTEP remains undefeated at 8-0.
Among the Big 12 leaders in scoring all season, Davis gave the Red Raiders a 1-0 lead in the match by scoring her fifth goal of the season on a free kick just outside the penalty box at the 13:44 mark.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the Miners tied the game in the 20th minute on Melissa Abraham's fifth goal of the season took a 2-1 advantage prior to halftime on a score from Kia Sams.
In the second half, the Red Raiders attempted to rally, outshooting the Miners 14-4 in the period, but UTEP was able to built a 4-1 lead as Jami Tullius scored her first goal of the season and Abraham tallied her second goal of the day.
Davis broke through to connect on her second goal of the afternoon in the 84th minute as she beat UTEP goalkeeper Brittany Popoff for her sixth goal of the year.
Senior Beth Lippert drew the start in goal for the Red Raiders and collected seven saves in the loss.
Texas Tech soccer is back in action next weekend as it kicks off conference play by hosting Iowa State and Nebraska at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
