Rincon Breaks Career Shutout Record in 4-0 Win
Sept. 18, 2008
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior goalkeeper Tina Rincon broke the school career shutout record Thursday night as the Red Raiders defeated Oral Roberts, 4-0, at the John Walker Soccer Complex. The shutout gives Rincon 12 total over her four-year career with nine coming under Tech head coach Tom Stone. Rincon now has four shutouts on the year, which are tops among Big 12 goalkeepers heading into this weekend's matches. The Red Raider offense dominated Oral Roberts throughout the match as Tech held a 30-4 shot advantage at the end of the match, its most shots since facing Texas-San Antonio last season. Katie Hinds got the Red Raiders out to another early lead as the sophomore headed in a Lauren Yelinek free kick in the 2nd minute. Yelinek's assist was her fifth on the season, tops among Big 12 freshmen. Hinds would add another goal in the 20th minute, this time taking a deflection from 15 yards out and firing to the left side of the net for her second multiple-goal match of the season and fourth overall. Five minutes later, Taylor Lytle would give Tech a 3-0 advantage with her third goal of the season as she found the back post off a Brittney Harrison slow rolling cross from the right side. Lytle finished the match tied with Hinds for the team high with six shots each. Tech's 3-0 halftime lead gives the Red Raiders 16 first half goals so far this season, a large amount in comparison to the two scored all of last season. Madison Terry completed the Tech scoring late in the second half as the freshman netted her first career goal off a rebound from a stopped Hinds' shot attempt in the 76th minute.
The night belonged to Rincon, however, as she finished with only one save, yet still earning the career shutout milestone. "Tonight was all about Tina," Stone said. "You could tell the team wanted it for her, and it was evident by their play tonight. Our second half performance was exactly what we were looking for, and our last goal was pure class. Hopefully, we can carry this into next weekend when Big 12 play resumes." The Red Raiders will take the rest of the weekend off before traveling to Oklahoma State Sept. 26 for a 7 p.m. match. Tech returns to the John Walker Soccer Complex Sept. 28, as the Red Raiders face Oklahoma. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. |
