LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas scored the match's only goal in the 25th minute, while Texas Tech was unable to capitalize on any offensive opportunities in a 1-0 loss to the Longhorns Sunday afternoon at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

Emily Anderson netted the game-winner for Texas, heading a corner kick from Courtney Gaines that went just by the hands of Tech goalkeeper Tina Rincon to move Texas to 9-2-2 overall and 2-2-1 in Big 12 play this season. Tech drops to 7-6-1 overall and 2-5 in conference.

With high winds and rain throughout the Lubbock area, Tech found itself going against the wind throughout the first half, but rallied to have several scoring opportunities, including two corner kicks in the 78th minute.

"With the way the wind worked today, we felt after Texas had the wind at their favor the first half, we could use it to our advantage in the second half," Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "Texas has one of the best defensive players in the country, which made it difficult to score, but I felt our team came out and played hard."

Taylor Lytle led the attack for the Red Raiders, attempting four shots, two of which were on-goal, while Katie Hinds added three shot attempts. Rincon collected eight saves in the match, her second-highest total this season.

Tech would attempt a corner kick within the final minute, pulling all 11 players to the box, including Rincon, but Texas would head the ball outside the area as time expired.

"I really can't fault the team's effort today because we came out and battled to the end," said Stone. "Give Texas credit, they came in here in non-favorable conditions and got the points. We need to just build on this game and get ready for a big weekend next week."

Powered by 16 first-half shot attempts, Texas maintained a 24-13 shot advantage, while Tech held a 3-2 advantage in corners.

The Red Raiders go on the road for the final time this season next weekend, traveling to Iowa State Oct. 17 and Nebraska Oct. 19.
