Final Stats

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer team had its senior night spoiled by the Colorado Buffalos Friday night at R.P. Fuller Stadium 2-1.

In the 55th minute of play Jessi Burgener and Tiffany Booth broke through the Red Raider defense in transition for a two-on-one breakaway in which Booth beat Tech keeper Brittney Peese low putting the Buffalos up for good, 2-1.

Tech (4-15, 0-10) opened the scoring at the 31:30 mark as Rachel Mavris scored her sixth goal of the season and third in the last three games as her shot for 20 yards out looped over the Colorado goalie.

Tech soccer coach Felix Oskam decided to start Mavris at game time, because she was sick most of the week and missed practice on Wednesday. "She was sick before the game, so I didn't know if she was even going to be able to play tonight. She really stepped up for us and helped pick up the slack that Graham's (Carrie) injury created."

Colorado knotted up the score in the 40th minute as Jessica Wollow headed Ellen Falender's crossing pass into the nearside net, the goal was her first of the season.

"They gave it their all," stated Oskam. "They never quit and put themselves in a position to tie or even win the game, it really could have gone either way."

With the loss the Red Raiders' injury plagued season draws to a close. With 14 underclassmen on this year's squad Tech should be one of the most seasoned teams in the Big 12 and will look to contend for one of the eight spots in the Big 12 Post season tournament. "They have a lot of game time experience which should help them next season," said Oskam of his younger players.
