Red Raiders End Season with Two Wins
Tech Beats Stephen F. Austin, 2-1
The Texas Tech women's soccer team ended their season with victories over Stephen F. Austin and Centenary.
On Friday, Tech defeated Stephen F. Austin 2-1 in Nacogdoches. It was the first time this season that Tech played on an artificial surface. It was also the first night game in school history.
After a scoreless first half, the Red Raiders started the scoring when Amaris Smith successfully hit a shot in the 74th minute of play. Kelly Taylor was awarded the assist. The Ladyjacks answered in the 77th minute. The tie remained until the 88th minute when Kristy Frantz scored her 14th goal of the season.
On Sunday, the Red Raiders faced a Centenary team that had suffered only two previous losses. Tech handed the Ladies their third loss as they brought home a 3-1 win. Tech got on the board first with a goal from Amy Rutstein in the 14th minute of play. Amaris Smith scored in the 33rd minute to bring the halftime score to 2-0. Smith added Tech's final goal in the 72nd minute off an assist from Rutstein. Centenary avoided the shutout by scoring in the 73rd minute.
Kellie McCallister was in goal for both weekend games. She tallied three saves, two goals against and a goals against average of 1.00 in the final games.
