Women's Soccer Still Looking for Win Number One
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer team fell to 0-2 in the season today when they were defeated by the University of Mississippi 3-2 today at Fuller Stadium.
"We're not consistent enough yet. Right now we still have to work on a lot of things. Right now we play average, and I know we can do better," Texas Tech coach Felix Oskam said.
The Lady Rebels scored the only goal of the first half when Jennifer Soileau netted a shot from Sarah Wong. Tech entered the second haly with a 1-0 disadvantage.
The Red Raiders returned strong in second half action. Sophomore forward Amaris Smith scored on an assist from senior midfielder Julie Clement in the 47th minute of play. Ole Miss answered with two scores. Tech continued to fight as sophomor forward Kristy Frantz scored on a penalty kick in the 86th minute. Time expired before Tech could find the net again.
"Usually we start very well, but in the middle and at the end we start to slack off. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise because hopefully we'll pick it up in the middle and the end, because that's what counts," Oskam said.
The Red Raiders are now 0-2 on the season. They begin conference play next weekend as they travel to Oklahoma to take on OU at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5 and Oklahoma State and 1 p.m. on Sept. 7.
