Red Raiders shutout Kansas, 2-0
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech womens soccer team shutout the Kansas Jayhawks 2-0 today at R. P. Fuller Stadium. The win moves Techs Big 12 mark to 3-0 and their overall record to 3-2. The Jayhawks fell to 0-3 in conference play and 2-3 on the season.
The Red Raiders scored their first goal in the 20th minute when sophomore forward Kristy Frantz capitalized on a penalty kick. Five minutes later, Frantz assisted sophomore forward Amaris Smith on a shot up the middle.
We needed this win. It was an important win for us. Kansas played very well., Texas Tech Head Coach Felix Oskam said.
Red Raider goalkeeper Kellie McCallister recorded six saves in claiming her second shutout of the season. McCallisters goals against average now stands at 1.40. Texas Tech took 15 shots and one corner kick while committing 11 fouls.
The Jayhawks took 14 shots on goal and six corner kicks. Goalkeeper Jennifer Fecke had four saves in 79:13 minutes of play, while Katie Garrity recorded two saves in the final 20:47 minutes of play.
Texas Tech will have a day to rest before facing Big 12 foe Missouri at noon on Sunday. The game will be played at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
Missouri has an extremely talented team. We have to be prepared to defend against a strong team, Oskam said.
