Red Raiders Drop Game to Texas, 2-0
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team lost their second straight game as the Texas Longhorns took home a 2-0 shutout victory.
The Texas goals happened within minutes of each other, despite being in different halves. Freshman forward Bonnie McAuliffe hit the first shot off an assist from Nicole Ramirez in the 43rd minute of play.
Goals at crucial times can be back breakers. We lost our momentum after they scored the first goal, Texas Tech Head Coach Felix Oskam said.
The second goal came soon after the half when Nicole Ramirez scored in the 46th minute.
Texas controlled the midfield and I believe that if you control the midfield you win the game, Oskam said.
Texas Tech goalkeeper Kellie McCallister had five saves, while Cami Varnadore of Texas recorded three. The Red Raider offense took six shots on goal, to Texas 19. Tech had three corner kicks and 14 fouls. The Longhorns took 6 corner kicks and committed 15 fouls. Three yellow cards were issued as well. Nicole Ramirez and Jennifer Cavalle, both of Texas were booked with cards, while Techs Cece Dillon received one during the second half.
The Red Raiders fell to 4-4 on the season and 4-2 in Big 12 action. The Longhorns improved their record to 4-2 and 4-1 in Big 12 play.
Tech will continue Big 12 play next weekend as they head north to play Iowa State on Friday at 4 p.m.. and Nebraska on Sunday at noon.
