Texas Tech Soccer Falls to Cyclones

AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa State soccer team (4-5) defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-5) by a score of 4-2 Friday at the ISU Soccer Complex. The Cyclones gained their first conference win of the year, improving to 1-4 in the Big 12. Texas Tech moves to 4-3 in the Big 12.

The Cyclones trailed the Red Raiders 2-1 at halftime, after a pair of goals by Kristy Frantz and Amaris Smith. The Frantz goal came immediately, at the 50-second mark.

The Cyclones answered at the 37-minute mark, when sophomore Liz Salih booted the ball in from close to the sideline to get Iowa State on the board.

The second half was all Iowa State, as the Cyclones scored three goals to earn the victory. The first of the second half goals came from senior Dawn Weber at 54:18, followed by Lindsey Rector at 68:13, and ended with a goal by Brittany Hull at 76 minutes.

Iowa State head coach Cathy Klein credited the reserve players with the win, noting that sophomore Elizabeth Salih, and freshmen Jessica Willey and Megheen Walker contributed to the win in great ways. Walker was making her first appearance in game this season. "Our reserves had a brilliant week at practice and their play allowed us to win the game," Klein said.

Iowa State's next game will be Sunday against the Baylor Bears at the ISU Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. The Red Raiders face 11th-rated Nebraska Sunday in Lincoln.
