Tech Soccer Adds Seven on National Signing Day

The Texas Tech soccer program announced its 2013 Signing Class Wednesday.

Feb. 6, 2013

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head soccer coach Tom Stone announced Wednesday the signing of seven student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.

The highly-touted class includes six players from within the state of Texas and comes on the heels of the most successful season in school history.

"This class is all about balance," Stone, who enters his seventh season at Texas Tech in 2013, said. "We had specific needs across each line with the graduation of Morgan Johnson, Tiffini Smith, Sarah Ellison and Dawn Ward - all starters for much of their careers. This class has addressed those needs and then some. Each of these young ladies has progressed in their game since they committed to us, and has demonstrated outstanding achievements in the classroom as well. Our search for the right fit in terms of Red Raider student-athletes could not have found a better group of young ladies to bring into the Texas Tech family in 2013."

The 2013 class includes a national top-25 forward in Maddy Crabtree (Greenville, Texas) and top-25 defender in Meagan McCullough (Garland, Texas) who attended the U.S. U-18 Training Camp in California.

Texas Tech is coming off a historic 2012 season in which the Red Raiders won a school record 16 games and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Tech went 9-1 at home and saw a six-win improvement in just one season - the largest single-season improvement among Big 12 teams.

The Red Raiders ended the 2012 campaign ranked No. 25 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America postseason poll.
