LUBBOCK, Texas - After beginning offseason training several weeks ago, the Texas Tech soccer team will travel to Austin, Texas, for its first match of the spring in a doubleheader against Houston at 10 a.m. Saturday and the University of Miami (Fla.) at 6 p.m. later that day at the Williamson County Regional Park.

The Red Raiders are coming off an 8-10-1 finish to their 2008 season, where the team finished eighth in the Big 12 and qualified for the conference championship tournament in consecutive seasons for the first time in school history.

Tech begins the spring with 23 players on its roster with the addition of freshmen Conner Williams and Jordyn Young who both enrolled straight out of high school in January. Dawn Ward will also make her first collegiate appearance as the redshirt freshman missed the entire 2008 season after suffering a knee injury her senior year of high school.

The Red Raiders will be missing five players due to injury, however, as Soccer Buzz national all-freshman third team recipient Taylor Lytle will remain in Lubbock along with Sarabeth Clopton, Halie Cdebaca, Karen De Leon and Hope Hanson.

Houston finished its 2008 campaign 7-9-1 overall and 10th in Conference USA with a 3-7-1 record. Miami, on the other hand, finished 10-9-3 overall and was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Championship by Central Florida.

The Red Raiders return home next weekend, hosting UTEP at 6 p.m. Fri., March 6, and Big 12 foe Oklahoma State at the same time the following day at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
