Tech Soccer Defeats Alumni, 7-1
March 1, 2005
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's soccer defeated the Alumni team, 7-1, during Sunday's match. Six different players accounted for the Varsity squad's seven goals.
Alumni weekend kicked-off with attendance at the Lady Raider basketball game. The Lady Raiders defeated Oklahoma State, 65-52.
Prior to the Varsity vs. Alumni match on Sunday morning, past and present players participated in the alumni breakfast. With the assistance of the Double T Association and the Marsha Sharp Leadership Circle, players and their guests were treated to breakfast and a Texas Tech soccer slide show.
The first annual Allison Horn memorial award was presented to CeCe (Dillon) McCasland who played for the Red Raiders during the 1996-1999 seasons. The award was presented by Horn's parents, in her memory, to the player who most demonstrated Horn's exemplary traits of honesty, loyalty, caring, hard work and passion for team and life. This award will be presented at future alumni games.
Kim Warren, Megan Blume, Lauren Lothrop, Kim Cypert and Ashley Reed each tallied goal. 2004's leading scorer Priscilla Esquivel notch two goals during the match. Catie Arsenault scored the lone alumni goal.
"I am very pleased with Sunday's performance," said head coach Neil McGuire. "They took what we have been working on in practice and implemented it very well. To score seven goals in any game is quite an accomplishment. More importantly it was a wonderful celebration of our program with past and present players uniting on one field."
