LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team played host to West Texas A&M in its second exhibition match of the 2014 spring season Friday night at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
Tech built an early lead thanks to goals from Hannah Devine and Briana Rohmer in the 18th and 21st minute, and Janine Beckie added a goal in the 59th minute to cap off a 3-0 victory for the Red Raiders.
"We are getting everybody a chance to play here, so there's a lot of opportunity for players that maybe the fans haven't seen much of and they're all coming along nicely," Texas Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "Once we started playing at a really fast pace, we kind of took over and that was it."
Devine, who logged over 1,500 minutes and scored three goals as a sophomore during the 2013 season, got the scoring started for the Red Raiders following a corner from Caity Heap. Rohmer then followed with a goal of her own bending in a left-footer into the upper-left corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Red Raiders tacked on a goal in the second half when Beckie launched a shot from 30-yards out that would find the back of the net and seal a 3-0 win.
The Red Raiders held a 20-2 shot advantage and a 6-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities in the match.
Tech will continue its spring season March 28 when the Red Raiders travel to Houston to face the Houston Dash.
Tech finished the 2013 season with a school record 18 victories while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second-consecutive season.
