LUBBOCK, Texas - Five Texas Tech student-athletes were honored today by the Big 12 Conference as recipients of the fourth annual Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award - the Conference's highest of academic honors.

Tech's Jaye Crockett (Senior Master of Science Interdisciplinary Studies - Men's Basketball), Hayley Haagsma (Senior Human Development and Family Studies - Soccer), Dejan Kravic (Senior Master of Science Exercise and Sports Sciences - Men's Basketball), Raphael Pfister (Senior Finance - Men's Tennis) and Taylor Powell (Senior Animal Science - Softball) were each recognized by the conference for their outstanding academic achievements.

Pfister was named the Big 12 Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the 2013 season.

Meanwhile, Crockett and Kravic have each been named to the Academic All-Big 12 basketball team in their careers while Kravic was also named to the NABC Honors Court in July.

Haagsma, who was recently drafted in the second round of the National Women's Soccer League by Sky Blue FC, was tabbed to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team in November. Powell, meanwhile, earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in last spring.

In all, 64 student-athletes from across the conference were recognized. The awards honor the memory of Lage, who served as the Oklahoma State faculty athletics representative with the NCAA and the Big Eight/Big 12 Conference from 1983 until his death in 2007.

In order to be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must have lettered at least once in their career while maintaining residence at their institution for at least one academic year. The honoree, which can only be recognized once, should have 100 hours of earned credit with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 at the time of the nomination.

The Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award recipients will receive public recognition at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Basketball Championships.
