Williams Leads Tech Past LSU in Spring Opener
Conner Williams recorded two assists in the Red Raiders 2-0 shutout win over LSU Saturday.
HOUSTON - The Red Raiders began their 2012 spring season in style with a 2-0 shutout victory over LSU Saturday in a neutral-site match at the Awty International School.
"It was a very solid overall spring performance by our squad," head coach Tom Stone said. "We possessed the ball well and were able to limit LSU's chances by not giving up on the ball often."
Fuston scored the opening goal of the match in the 28th minute to give the Red Raiders an early 1-0 advantage before Disabella added to the Red Raider lead with a goal in the 40th minute of play. With the win, Tech moved to 1-0 in spring play.
LSU finished the 2011 season 13-8-1 overall and 8-3 in the SEC.
The match was hosted by the Albion Hurricane Soccer Club which hosts two college programs each year for a spring match.
"The Albion folks did a tremendous job putting on this game," Stone said. "The facilities were first-class and the crowd was great. Our girls really enjoyed the event from start to finish. We certainly hope to be part if this again in the future."
Texas Tech will return to action next weekend when the squad travels to UTEP for a double header against UTEP and New Mexico State.
