LUBBOCK, Texas - Jessica Fuston and Hayley Haagsma each found the back of the net Saturday as Texas Tech cruised to a 2-0 shutout victory New Mexico.

Tech played a total of 100 minutes during Saturday's scrimmage at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

With the win, the Red Raiders improved to 3-0-1 on the spring season and have now defeated two teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year.

"It was another strong spring showing from our squad today," head coach Tom Stone said. "We enjoy playing New Mexico because they are such a talented team and we know we will be stretched to perform at a high level on the day."

New Mexico finished the season 12-5-4 overall and 8-1-2 in the Mountain West Conference on its way to reaching the NCAA tournament in 2011.

Fuston ignited the offense for Texas Tech as she scored on an assist from Erin Inman to put Tech on the board. It marked her second goal of the spring season.

"The thing that is great about Jessica is that she is a pure scorer," Stone said. "She is just relentless in her pursuit of the goal."

The Red Raiders later extended their lead when Haagsma scored by driving the ball to the top of the net on a rebound off a missed shot from Paige Strahan. The 2-0 lead proved to be all the Red Raiders needed as the defense, which has shutout each opponent this spring, again turned in a dominant performance.

Texas Tech continues its spring action April 14 on the road in a match against North Texas.
