LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team is set to continue the 2013 spring season as the Red Raiders hit the road for a pair of highly-anticipated matches at the AHFC College Cup Weekend in Houston.
Texas Tech will face Rice Saturday inside Rice Soccer Stadium before taking on Lamar Sunday at the Awty International School. The two matches are free to the public and will give fans in the Houston area a chance to preview the 2013 Red Raiders as the squad looks to build upon its most successful season in school history.
The Red Raiders opened the 2013 spring season with a 3-0 shutout victory over West Texas A&M on April 5, and enter this weekend with a seven-match shutout streak as Tech has not allowed a goal in spring play since April 14, 2011.
Texas Tech won a school record 16 matches in 2012 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where the Red Raiders took eventual Final Four participant Florida State into overtime in Tallahassee. Tech returns three All-Big 12 First Team selections from last season including NSCAA All-American forward Janine Beckie.
The Red Raiders ended the 2012 season ranked No. 25 in the NSCAA Postseason Coaches Poll and No. 21 in the NCAA Women's Soccer RPI rankings.
