Beckie to Play on U.S. U-20 Team in Sweden

Janine Beckie will play with the U.S. U-20 National Team later today in Sweden.

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech All-American freshman forward Janine Beckieis set to play today as a member of the U.S. U-20 national team in the first of two matches in Sweden.

Beckie and the U.S squad will face the U-20 Sweden national team today before closing the trip with a June 2 match against the Sweden U-23 team.

Beckie was called up to the U.S. U-20 national team earlier this month after participating in two training camps this spring in Carson, Calif. The Highlands Ranch, Colo. native burst onto the collegiate soccer scene in 2012 scoring 14 goals and earning Big 12 Rookie of the Year honors.

Her 14 goals were the most by a Texas Tech freshman since 1996, and were the third most nationally among freshmen. She was also recently tabbed by Top Drawer Soccer as one of the top-10 returning forwards in the country.

Her stellar season was instrumental in Texas Tech's first trip to the NCAA Tournament where the Red Raiders advanced to the second round.
