Red Raider Soccer Finalizes 2014 Schedule

June 10, 2014

The Texas Tech soccer team will open its 2014 campaign Aug. 22 when the Red Raiders host New Mexico at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer program officially unveiled its 19-match regular season schedule for the 2014 campaign today.

The Red Raiders, coming off back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament, will open the fall campaign Aug. 22 against regional rival New Mexico at the John Walker Soccer Complex. The match will kick off an exciting home schedule that features a total of 10 matches in Lubbock.

"This schedule will certainly challenge us to be at our best all season long." Texas Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "We're excited for what 2014 has ahead for us. Given the RPI based climate we compete in, we worked hard to improve our average RPI score (based on last year's numbers) in the non-conference schedule over 2013.  This effort has given us a challenging schedule and one our fans are sure to enjoy at home."

The Red Raiders have gone 19-2 at the John Walker Soccer Complex since 2012.

The Red Raiders went 10-1 at home in 2013 and are 19-2 at the John Walker Soccer complex since the 2012 season. Stone enters his eighth season at the helm of the Red Raider program in 2014 and has compiled a 34-8-4 record in the last two seasons with two trips to the NCAA Tournament.

The 2014 home slate will include Big 12 matches against Oklahoma (Oct. 3), Oklahoma State (Oct. 5), Baylor (Oct. 24) and Iowa State (Oct. 26).

The conference lineup is preceded by a strong non-conference schedule that includes matches against Oral Roberts, (Aug. 24), Sam Houston State (Sept. 5), Portland State (Sept. 7), Abilene Christian (Sept. 14) and UC Riverside (Sept. 28).

The Red Raiders will also benefit from premier road trips to Notre Dame for the Notre Dame Invitational (Aug. 29-31) and a non-conference clash against California (Sep. 12). The Notre Dame Invitational features an Aug. 29 match against Eastern Michigan before a highly anticipated game against the Fighting Irish on Aug. 31.

Tech is also scheduled to compete in Stillwater, Okla. at the Oklahoma State Invitational tournament Sept. 19-21. The Red Raiders will face Tulsa and Memphis over the weekend of play.

"Road trips to play Cal, Notre Dame and Memphis at the OSU Tournament are a tall order but these games plus the rest of our non-conference schedule will help us be ready for one of the toughest Big 12 seasons in recent memory." Stone said.

The Red Raiders will open the fall with an exhibition match at Denver - a 2013 NCAA Tournament qualifier and the reigning Summit League Championships. Texas Tech went 18-2-3 in 2013 and ended the year No. 17 in the NSCAA postseason rankings.
