Texas Tech Soccer Reports to Fall Camp | 2012 Texas Tech Soccer Schedule
LUBBOCK, Texas Loaded with a core of returning talent, the Texas Tech soccer team officially began fall practice Wednesday morning at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
The Red Raiders are scheduled to open their 2012 campaign in just more than two weeks with the season-opener against Idaho looming on Aug. 17.
"The preseason is a crucial time for our team," head coach Tom Stone said. "Last year was a great year for us, but this year can be even better. We have a team of upperclassmen that can lead, and I feel like our difference is leadership with seniors and veterans."
The Red Raiders will play one preseason match when they travel to Denver to face Utah in an exhibition scheduled for Aug. 11 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
Texas Tech is coming off of an impressive spring schedule in which the Red Raiders went 4-0-1 without allowing a single goal. Along the way they picked up shutout victories over LSU, New Mexico and TCU. Tech is scheduled to face both the Lobos and first-year Big 12 member TCU in 2012.
Last year, Tech tied for its highest Big 12 finish in program history while also setting a new standard for attendance at the John Walker Soccer Complex. The Red Raiders ended 2011 the campaign ranked No. 13 nationally in home attendance with an average of 1,332 fans attending 11 home matches.
This fall, the Red Raiders boast an impressive slate of home matches, including the NSCAA/Fox Soccer `College Game of the Week' on Oct. 26 when Tech hosts Oklahoma State. The game will be nationally televised and mark the first time in school history that Texas Tech has hosted the primetime college soccer showcase on Fox Soccer Channel.
