LUBBOCK, Texas - The 2013 Texas Tech soccer season is officially underway as 31 Red Raiders reported to the John Walker Soccer Complex Tuesday evening.
The Red Raiders will officially open fall practice Wednesday morning with the season-opener scheduled for Aug. 23 at New Mexico. Tech will host its home opener Aug. 25 against Colorado State.
"After a long offseason it's always exciting to get everybody back in the building," head coach Tom Stone said. "You can tell it's the first day because there is a jump in everybody's step, everyone is eager, the team is healthy and they look fit. We are ready to go."
Texas Tech is coming off a record-breaking 2012 season in which the Red Raiders advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Stone's squad returns eight starters from last year as the program broke the school record for wins (16) while going 9-1 at home.
Meanwhile, the Red Raiders return three All-Big 12 First Team selections including 2012 All-American forward Janine Beckie who finished the season third nationally among freshmen with 14 goals.
