LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech soccer standouts Janine Beckie and Jaelene Hinkle were both named Wednesday to the prestigious watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy that is presented annually to the top player in the country.

Tech was one of just six programs nationally with multiple players on the watch list that totaled 35 women's players overall, three of which that came from the Big 12 Conference.

"This is a tremendous honor for both Janine and Jaelene," Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "I was very pleased to see the soccer coaches from around the country recognize both of them at the national level. We were the only Big 12 team and one of just six in the country to have two or more players on the watch list and I think that speaks volumes about the impact these two have had the past few seasons."

This is the second-straight season where Beckie has found her name on the preseason Hermann watch list. The Highlands Ranch, Colorado native, who is currently playing with Canada in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, had led the Red Raiders in goals each of the past two seasons, scoring 14 as a freshman in 2012 and 12 last year.

She garnered All-Big 12 first team honors for the second-straight season a year ago and was also a NSCAA All-Central Region first team selection as well. Beckie, who was Tech's first ever soccer student-athlete to earn All-America honors in 2012, has been named to the NSCAA All-Region first team in each of her two seasons.

Hinkle, meanwhile, is on the watch list for the first time in her career after earning NSCAA third team All-America honors in 2013. One of the top defenders in program history, Hinkle was part of a Tech defense that ranked second nationally last season in shutout percentage and third for goals-against average.

The Denver, Colorado native was also instrumental in setting up Tech's scoring opportunities as well with a team-high six assists. She enters her senior season already ranked among the top-five players in school history for career assists.

This is the second preseason accolade already for Hinkle, who was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI first team on Tuesday morning. She was one of just three defenders nationally on the first team.

The Hermann watch list will the trimmed to the top 15 players near the end of the regular season with three of those being named finalists for the award a few weeks later. The 2014 MAC Hermann Trophy will be presented Jan. 9 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

The watch list was compiled by the NSCAA Women's NCAA Division I All-America Committee, based on its analysis of returning All-America and All-Region players as well as any prominent newcomers.
