LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer program placed two Red Raiders on the Preseason All-Big 12 team as announced by the Conference today.
Junior Jaelene Hinkle earned unanimous recognition as a preseason All-Big 12 defender while teammate and 2012 Big 12 Rookie of the Year Janine Beckie earned preseason honors as a forward. The selections were based on a vote by the league coaches.
Hinkle returns to the Red Raiders this season as one of the speediest backs in the country after leading the Red Raiders in assists in 2012 with five. She has nine for her already decorated career after twice being named to the NCAA All-Central Region team.
She was the only unanimous selection among the 12 players selected to the preseason squad.
Beckie had a breakout freshman campaign in 2012 netting 14 goals which ranked first among Big 12 newcomers and third nationally. Five of those 14 were game-winners. Her sensational freshman season was recognized on a national level, as she became Tech's first All-American in program history.
Both Beckie and Hinkle were tabbed by Top Drawer Soccer this summer among the top-10 returners nationally at their respective positions.
Texas Tech opens its 2013 campaign Aug. 23 at New Mexico with the home-opener set for Aug. 25 against Colorado State.
