LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 24 Texas Tech soccer team is set for its lone preseason match of the 2013 season as the Red Raiders travel north to face No. 25 Denver Saturday.

The Red Raiders, on the heels of a record-breaking 2012 season, will face off with the Pioneers at CIBER Field with first kick set for 7 p.m. (CST).

"It's important that we have a tough game before we start the season," Texas Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "Our non-conference schedule is very competitive, and we have a very tough opening night at New Mexico (Aug. 23). Denver has been extremely accommodating for us to come and play at their field and play their team which went into the NCAA postseason last year. We have the opportunity to test ourselves against a very good opponent."

Denver advanced to the Sweet 16 of the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Texas Tech enters the 2013 campaign with eight returning starters from a squad that went 16-6-1 last year, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and was picked second in the Preseason Big 12 Coaches Poll last week. Two Red Raiders were selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 squad in junior defender Jaelene Hinkle and sophomore forward Janine Beckie.

Hinkle earned a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, while Beckie returns from a stellar 2012 campaign that earned the Highlands Ranch, Colo. native NSCAA All-America status.

The Red Raiders open their 2013 regular season campaign Aug. 23 at New Mexico. Tech's home opener is set for Sunday, Aug. 25 against Colorado State at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
