LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech earned its second preseason ranking of the summer on Monday as the website TopDrawerSoccer.com picked the Red Raiders 15th in its first poll of the 2014 season.
The Red Raiders, coming off a 2-1 exhibition victory over No. 25 Denver last Saturday, were previously ranked 17th in the preseason poll released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Tech closed the 2013 season ranked 16th in the final Top Drawer Soccer poll after closing the year 18-2-3 overall, including a 6-0-2 mark in Big 12 play. The successful season ended with Tech's second-straight trip to the second round of the NCAA Championship.
The Red Raiders were one of two Big 12 programs ranked by the website as West Virginia was picked 10th overall. Tech topped the Mountaineers, 2-0, last year in Lubbock but fell just a point back of West Virginia for the Big 12 regular season title.
Top Drawer also picked the Red Raiders to finish second in the Big 12 standings in its preseason rankings of every conference across the nation. Tech was also picked to end the year second in the Big 12 Preseason Poll released last week.
The Red Raiders open the 2014 season Friday evening against New Mexico. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
