LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior forward Jessica Fuston earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. The Cedar Park, Texas native is coming off a three-goal performance during the Red Raiders' 4-0 shutout win over Montana Sunday at the TCU Invitational.
"Jessica is just a true goal scorer," head coach Tom Stone said. "And she has added some elements to her game this year. She has always been great in the air, but her power now with her shot has improved and she can score in a lot of different ways."
It marks the fourth time Fuston has earned a Player of the Week award from the Big 12 during her decorated Red Raider career. She last earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors on Sept. 27, 2011.
Fuston currently leads the Big 12 with four goals on the season as the Red Raiders have outscored their first four opponents by a 9-1 margin. The four goals this season brings her career total to 23 which ranks fifth all-time at Texas Tech.
Fuston's first two goals on Sunday came within a span of just 2:50 marking the quickest back-to-back scores by a Red Raider since she scored twice in just 53 seconds against Northern Arizona last year.
Texas Tech returns home Friday to face Nevada at the John Walker Soccer Complex with first kick is set for 7 p.m. The first 100 Texas Tech students will receive a free t-shirt as part of Student Appreciation Day.
