Red Raiders 1-3 After Weekend Play

LUBBOCK, Tex. - Texas Tech captured its first win of the season in a 3-2 overtime victory over West Texas A&M last Friday. The Red Raiders were put in a come-from-behind situation a couple of times as the Lady Buffs scored the first goal at the nine-minute mark. Junior midfielder Jennifer Hamm knotted the scored at 59:01. WTAMU came back to take the lead at 2-1 at 78:10. Tech senior forward Kristy Frantz knocked in a goal at 80:56 to tie the contest at 2-2 and send the game into overtime. A header by junior Lindsay Thompson in the overtime period at 103:58, assisted by freshman midfielder Lindsey Wile, gave Tech the victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Peese played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves. Against Arkansas, the Red Raiders were defeated 2-0. The Lady Razorbacks scored at the 19:00 mark and at 58:24. Texas Tech dominated the game as it outshot Arkansas 18-6 and recorded six corner kicks to the Lady Razorbacks four. Tech had 10 shots-on-goal led by Hamm and sophomore forward Marie Valdez with three each. Peese was the goalkeeper again and had two save on Arkansas four shots-on-goal. This Weeks Action
UTEP has a 2-0 record after beating Stephen F. Austin, 5-0, on Sept. 3 and Portland State, 3-0, Sept. 5. In their last game against Portland State, the Miners were led by Janet Esparza who scored two goals and had a team-high five shots. Goalkeeper Amanda Smith tallied four saves in her second shutout of the season. UTEP recorded 14 shots to Portland States six, while finishing with seven corner kicks. New Mexico enters the weekend with a 1-3 record. The Lobos defeated Northern Arizona 2-1 in overtime Sept. 3 and then lost to Arizona 3-2 Sept. 5. Against NAU, Michelle Nowfel scored the game-winning goal nine minutes and 15 seconds into the overtime period. The Lobos outshot NAU 15-9, including six shots-on-goal to NAUs four.

Head Coach Felix Oskam
Prior to coming to Tech in 1995, Oskam served for three years as an assistant coach for both the mens and womens programs at the University of Tulsa. During the 1993 season, the Tulsa womens program finished ranked 18th in the nation. In 1991, the Tulsa mens team achieved a national ranking of 17. Oskam is currently a staff coach and instructor fro the North Texas Soccer Association and a Region III Olympic Development Program (ODP). He also worked as a staff coach for the ODP in Oklahoma and coached the Blackwatch 80 girls team select team in Tulsa. Oskam played 12 years of club soccer in the Netherlands before attending the University of North Texas. While at North Texas, he helped guide the Eagles to their first national ranking and was twice chosen as a Texas Collegiate Soccer League All-Star. Oskam holds a United States Soccer Federation A license and is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
