Red Raiders 4-5-1 After Splitting Games in Fort Worth
Texas Tech traveled to Fort Worth, Texas last weekend for two games. The Red Raiders suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to TCU and then shutout Northwestern State 3-0.

Against TCU, sophomore forward Carrie Graham got Tech on the board first scoring a goal at the 40 minute mark on a cross from junior midfielder Lindsay Thompson. Senior defender Jamie Woods also assisted on the goal. TCU knotted the score at 75:47 to send the game into overtime. With three minutes left in the overtime period, the Horned Frogs scored to claim the win. TCU outshot Tech 11-10. Senior forward

Kristy Frantz led the Red Raiders in shots with three, including two on goal. Both teams recorded seven corner kicks apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Kellie McCallister playedher second game in goal and tallied four saves.

McCallister recorded her first shutout of the season in the 3-0 victory over Northwestern State. Three Red Raiders each scored a goal with the first on coming at 9:10 by Frantz from Thompson. Sophomore forward Marie Valdez scored a header on a cross from Thompson in the 85 minute. It was Valdez's first goal of her career. Graham also assisted on the goal. Senior Lizzy Biles knocked in her first goal of the year at 88:33 on an assist from junior midfielder Jennifer Hamm and junior defender Kelly Taylor. Frantz had a team-high seven shots and five shots-on-goal as Tech outshot the Demons 27-5. McCallister finished the 90 minutes with three saves.

This Week's Action
Texas Tech will return to Big 12 action this week with Missouri on Friday, Oct. 1 a 4 p.m. and then with Kansas on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. Tech is 0-2 in Big 12 play this year, losing at Nebraska and at Iowa State in the first two games of the 1999 season.

Missouri is 7-2 after defeating Loyola Chicago last Sunday, 6-0. The Tigers hold a 2-0 Big 12 record as they beat Colorado 6-2 and Kansas 4-0. Junior forward Nikki Thole has scored a team-high 11 goals on 37 shots and has five assists, while senior forward Erin Grimsley has seven goals and a team-high seven assists. Senior goalkeeper Jackie Adamec has played in all nine games recording 46 saves and has a 1.27 goals-against-average. The Tigers have outshot their opponents 148 to 113 and have recorded 35 corner kicks to their opponents' 29.

Kansas has a 5-4 record after beating Drury College, 3-0, last Friday and Creighton, 1-0, last Sunday. The Jayhawks, who are 0-2 in conference play after, losing to Colorado 2-1 and Missouri 4-0, are led by senior midfielder Melissa Downing with three goals followed by four players with two goals apiece. Sophomore forward Melanie Schroeder has a team-high 26 shots, while junior midfielder Meghann Haven paces the team with five assists. Senior goalkeeper Betsy Pollard has tallied 68 saves as she has played in all nine games. Pollard has a 1.45 goals-against-average. Kansas has outshot its opponents 141-137 and has 32 corner kicks to its opponents' 36.

Series Records
The Red Raiders are 2-2 against Missouri, losing last season 5-3 in Columbia, Mo., on Oct. 2. Tech holds a 2-1 advantage over Kansas with a 1-0 triumph last year on Oct. 12 in Norman, Okla.

Valdez Gets First
Sophomore forward Marie Valdez scored her first goal as a Red Raider in the 3-0 win over Northwestern State last Saturday. Valdez scored a header on an assist from junior midfielder Lindsay Thompson and sophomore forward Carrie Graham in the 85th minute of the game.

Shutout #1 for McCallister
Sophomore goalkeeper Kellie McCallister got her first shutout of the season in the 3-0 triumph against Northwestern State and her third of her career. After being medically redshirted last year, McCallister hasplayed three games in goal this season.

Graham Paces Red Raiders in Goals
Sophomore forward Carrie Graham scored her third goal of the season in the loss at TCU last Friday. Graham paces the Red Raiders in goals followed by junior midfielder Jennifer Hamm and senior Kristy Frantz with two goals each.

1999 Captains
Senior defenders Ashlyn Peterson and Jamie Woods and junior defender Kelly Taylor have been selected as this year's team captains.

Head Coach Felix Oskam
Felix Oskam begins his third season as head coach of the Red Raiders and has compiled a 17-22-4 record. Previously, Oskam had served as an assistant coach for the team during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. Prior to coming to Tech in 1995, Oskam served for three years as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs at the University of Tulsa. During the 1993 season, the Tulsa women's program finished ranked 18th in the nation. In 1991, the Tulsa men's team achieved a national ranking of 17. Oskam is currently a staff coach and instructor fro the North Texas Soccer Association and a Region III Olympic Development Program (ODP). He also worked as a staff coach for the ODP in Oklahoma and coached the Blackwatch Ô80 girls team select team in Tulsa. Oskam played 12 years of club soccer in the Netherlands before attending the University of North Texas. While at North Texas, he helped guide the Eagles to their first national ranking and was twice chosen as a Texas Collegiate Soccer League All-Star. Oskam holds a United States Soccer Federation 'A' license and is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Home Again, Home Again
The Red Raiders return home to play Friday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. against Missouri and Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. against Kansas. Tech then plays again in Lubbock the following weekend against Texas Friday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. and Texas A&M Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.
