Raider Soccer Squad Continues Big 12 Schedule
Sept. 27, 1999 Red Raiders 4-5-1 After Splitting Games in Fort Worth Against TCU, sophomore forward Carrie Graham got Tech on the board first scoring a goal at the 40 minute mark on a cross from junior midfielder Lindsay Thompson. Senior defender Jamie Woods also assisted on the goal. TCU knotted the score at 75:47 to send the game into overtime. With three minutes left in the overtime period, the Horned Frogs scored to claim the win. TCU outshot Tech 11-10. Senior forward Kristy Frantz led the Red Raiders in shots with three, including two on goal. Both teams recorded seven corner kicks apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Kellie McCallister playedher second game in goal and tallied four saves. McCallister recorded her first shutout of the season in the 3-0 victory over Northwestern State. Three Red Raiders each scored a goal with the first on coming at 9:10 by Frantz from Thompson. Sophomore forward Marie Valdez scored a header on a cross from Thompson in the 85 minute. It was Valdez's first goal of her career. Graham also assisted on the goal. Senior Lizzy Biles knocked in her first goal of the year at 88:33 on an assist from junior midfielder Jennifer Hamm and junior defender Kelly Taylor. Frantz had a team-high seven shots and five shots-on-goal as Tech outshot the Demons 27-5. McCallister finished the 90 minutes with three saves. This Week's Action Missouri is 7-2 after defeating Loyola Chicago last Sunday, 6-0. The Tigers hold a 2-0 Big 12 record as they beat Colorado 6-2 and Kansas 4-0. Junior forward Nikki Thole has scored a team-high 11 goals on 37 shots and has five assists, while senior forward Erin Grimsley has seven goals and a team-high seven assists. Senior goalkeeper Jackie Adamec has played in all nine games recording 46 saves and has a 1.27 goals-against-average. The Tigers have outshot their opponents 148 to 113 and have recorded 35 corner kicks to their opponents' 29. Kansas has a 5-4 record after beating Drury College, 3-0, last Friday and Creighton, 1-0, last Sunday. The Jayhawks, who are 0-2 in conference play after, losing to Colorado 2-1 and Missouri 4-0, are led by senior midfielder Melissa Downing with three goals followed by four players with two goals apiece. Sophomore forward Melanie Schroeder has a team-high 26 shots, while junior midfielder Meghann Haven paces the team with five assists. Senior goalkeeper Betsy Pollard has tallied 68 saves as she has played in all nine games. Pollard has a 1.45 goals-against-average. Kansas has outshot its opponents 141-137 and has 32 corner kicks to its opponents' 36.
