LUBBOCK, Texas - Looking to bounce back from its first home loss of the 2012 season, the Texas Tech soccer team will hit the road for a Friday night match with Texas in Austin. First kick for the match is set for 5:30 p.m. from Mike A. Myers Stadium and the match is scheduled to air nationally on the Longhorn Network.
"This is a game that we look forward to because they are a quality team," head coach Tom Stone said. "We have had good games in Austin and we just look forward to it. It's always a good game."
The Red Raiders (10-4, 2-2 Big 12) enter the match with one of the top offenses in the Big 12 led by sensational freshman Janine Beckie who brings with her a team-leading nine goals.
Beckie netted her ninth career goal Friday in a 3-2 double overtime loss to Baylor. Texas Tech has scored 29 goals this season, ranking third in the Big 12, while Beckie leads the conference in shots with 79 and her nine goals are tops among all Big 12 freshmen.
Last year, the Red Raiders defeated Texas 3-2 in a thrilling double-overtime match at the John Walker Soccer Complex to close out the 2011 home schedule. Texas Tech has not dropped a match in Austin since the 2008 season as the previous two meetings between the Red Raiders and Longhorns at Mike A. Myers Stadium have ended in draws. The two in-state rivals ended in a scoreless decision in 2010 following a 2-2 tie during the 2009 season.
The Red Raiders will return home on Sunday for a 1 p.m. non-conference match against Francis Marion at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
