Harrison Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
Oct. 16, 2007
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore defender Brittney Harrison was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week today following her strong performance last weekend as the Red Raiders went on to win consecutive conference matches for the first time since 2000.
In last Friday's match against Iowa State, Harrison scored her second goal of the season, while also providing the assist on Zhaleh Rezaie's game-winning goal.
On the back line, Harrison led the Red Raiders in a strong defensive performance, helping Tech defeat Nebraska for the first time in school history, while also breaking a 10-match losing streak to the Cyclones.
The award is Harrison's second in her career as she was named newcomer of the week in October of last year. The Plano, Texas, native is the first Red Raider to be named the conference's defensive player of the week since 2000.
This is the fourth time in school history a Red Raider has garnered a Big 12 weekly accolade and the first this season.
The Red Raiders resume conference play Friday traveling to Norman, Okla. to face the Oklahoma Sooners before returning home for a 1 p.m. Sunday match against Oklahoma State.
