Oct. 19, 2010
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman forward Jessica Fuston received her second conference honor of the year as she was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for her performance against Kansas last Friday.
This is second time Fuston has been named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week as she received the honor after the second week of the season as well.
"With the quality of freshmen coming into the Big 12 each year, it is truly an honor to be recognized for a particular performance," said head coach Tom Stone. "Jess has worked hard to make the transition to the college game and has had some great memories so far this season."
The Cedar Park, Texas, native scored the game-winning goal against Kansas as the Red Raiders shutout the Jayhawks, 2-0. Her goal was a team-leading seventh goal of the season, three of which are game-winners. The win marked the first time Tech had beaten KU in seven years and it was the Red Raiders' 10th shutout of the season.
The Red Raiders conclude the home portion of their schedule this weekend as they host Iowa State on Fri., Oct. 22, and Missouri on Sun., Oct. 24. Both matches kick-off at 7 p.m. at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
